An addendum to the last update...
Just got a text. Teresa & Kevin left the hospital a bit ago feeling uneasy. As I said, she is stable, but on maximum support. Nurses were supposed to do a blood gas at 10:00, and they were going to call to get the results. Preliminary results of the septic workup show no infection or bacteria, and they're waiting on two other tests. I'm sure Teresa will have more once they get home.

Hi! I am a mom to a CDH surivor turning 1 on Christmas Day this year! She is doing great! She was on ECMO for her 2-5th day of life and recovered steadily after that!
ReplyDeleteI know these early days are so scary and stressful! For me, what helped was reading survivor stories who went through what I was going through. Those stories were my lifeline. If you want, check out Par's story:

PAR did the ECMO dance for a while too (to the point that they had the machine in the room and twice the surgeon was in his car on his way to the hospital to put him on, but then he would get a slightly improved blood gas and they would call it off). PAR is the most adorable little 2 year old now! He actually had a fairly easy recovery after those stressful ECMO tap dance days.
If you have any questions, or need anything, please e-mail me. Averi is a fighter and will get through this step by step!
Hugs,
Jennifer
